Alex returned the hug, holding his sister close as well.

"...that's true." he said.

"We WILL need to change some things." he agreed.

"Discuss her schooling and all, but that's a bit far in the future, relatively speaking." he went on.

"Right now, I need to get character references and bring them to Hollie." he told her.

"Show her, and those in the Council that decide these things, that I'm fit to care for her."

"No time frame given." Alex replied.

"However, I'm treating this as ASAP. And time is a luxury I don't have." he told her.

"I'm thinking that the sooner I get the references, the better it'll look." he reasoned.

"...Aimee, I want to care for Madison." he then said.

"I... don't think I could stand to see her go. See her taken away." he admitted.

"I just... I mean... yeah, I mean... whatever." he then mumbled, growing quiet at the end.

"It... probably sounds stupid, so I'll stop talking."

Alex thought for a moment.

"Hmmmm... not sure if any clients will want to get too involved with something like this." he said.

"They prefer lowkey quiet lives." he reasoned.

"Vincent SHOULD be okay, though." he went on.

"Yes, he's related to Hollie, but he doesn't work for the Council in any official way, so it should be allowed." he reasoned further.

"And yourself a Yuri? That'd be a major help." he then told her with a smile.

"But yeah, that's what I currently have to get done." he said.

"Who were you calling, anyway?" he then asked at the end.

"Uh... it went." Alex replied.

"Not... good or bad." he clarified.

"Which is to say, she won't be taken away." he then said.

"But she DOES want to come here at some point to meet her, see how strong she is, and take a sample of her mana." he went on.

".....I also need character references." he then told her.

"2, at the very least." he continued.

"So... I need to find some ASAP."

"....ah!" Alex said.

"Right, right." he said further.

"I'm going to go check on her." he told her.

He then paused for a moment, and looked at Madison.

"...you didn't have to do the dishes." he commented.

"But thanks." he thanked her.

"It's a nice help."

Alex was stunned for a moment.

Why was Madison doing the dishes?

Did Aimee suggest it? Did Madison volunteer? Did she feel she HAD to?

He then sighed and shook his head.

"No." he replied.

"You're not going to have to leave." he told her.

"But I DO need to speak with Aimee." he then said.

"Do you know where she is?" he asked.

"Got it." Alex responded.

"Right now, I need character references." he told her.

"How many?" he asked.

"2, at the bare minimum." she responded.

Alex nodded again, and they parted ways, with him leaving the Council building, and returning home.

"Hello!?" he called in when he appeared in the area they designated for teleporting in.

"I'm back!"

Alex nodded again.

"Of course." he replied.

"And let me know when you want to meet her and get a sample of her mana." he told her.

"I'll make sure we're home for it." he said further.

"And I'll make sure Madison doesn't worry or concern herself with it." he went on.

"Poor thing's still trying to get used to a semi-stable home-life."

"......" Alex was silent, taking it all in.

"Right." he said.

"Yes, of course." he told her.

"I'll get started on that, immediately." he went on.

"Is there anything else you need to do, or need my help with, at least?" he asked.

"I'll do anything I can right now to help." he finished, showing more drive than she'd ever seen from him in the past.

"............" Alex was silent for a moment.

"I... ah..." he stammered.

"No. I don't." he admitted.

"Hm." he mumbled.

"I mean, if you want, you can come to meet her." he offered.

"See for yourself how strong she is, and get a sample of her mana." he reasoned.

"Unless that doesn't work for you."

Alex was silent for a moment, before nodding.

"Yes." he responded.

"And... well... it all depends on what the fastest way for her to be staying with me is." he told her.

"I'm fairly certain that she won't do well in the system." he continued.

"And she's a necromancer. A powerful one." he went on.

"I do believe it's in her best interests to stay with me and Aimee." he said.

"What is the smoothest way to do that?" he asked.

"All we can do is wait and see." Alex replied.

"Take each day as it comes." he said further.

"...starting with tomorrow." he then sighed.

-The next day-

Alex yawned as he walked through the corridors, stopping at a closed office door, and sitting down in one of the chairs beside it.

"..." he was silent as he sat down, and bit his lip.

'Hope this goes well...' he thought.

'REALLY hope this goes well...'

"I was in the living room." Alex told her.

"And I wouldn't have heard it. The knocking was... barely audible." he admitted.

"It was her aura that woke me up." he said.

"Yes, while she had the mana-restricting choker on." he continued.

"Her aura was STILL that strong. It woke me up." he went on.

"So... yeah. Intense stuff."

Alex was quiet as he heard this.

"I mean... sure, if you need to, go ahead." he told her.

He paused and then thought for a moment.

"And don't worry about dinner." he said.

"We'll save some for you, and I'll make sure you know where it is." he continued.

"Or I'll bring some up to you so you can eat it when you wake." he went on.

"But if you feel like you need to sleep now, go up and get it."
