"......." Rene was silent, before motioning to Desiree.

"Come." he said.

She approached him, and Rene sighed.

"He's not dead... but he's almost there." he told her.

"Just... hold his hand, talk to him, do something. It might help." he told her further.

"His sheer will is keeping him alive right now, and if you can reach him, it might be what he needs to rebound."

The medics made sure Marcus' chest was bare, before they put some wired pads on it.

"Clear!" Rene yelled, as something pulsed through them, causing Marcus to jerk some.

"Clear!" he repeated, as the same thing happened. Again, and again, and again. They did this about 12 times, before the machines started to emit a high-pitched sustained tone.

"No..." Rene whispered.

"No, damn it! Do NOT leave your daughter!" he growled at Marcus.

"If you care about her so much, then LIVE, god damn you!" he said further.

The machines continued to emit the tone for another 5 seconds, before Desiree saw her father's hand twitch... and the machine beeped slightly.

Once they were home, the driver was paid and they went inside.

"So." Aly said.

"You still want to order in those sub sandwiches?" she asked.

"Or do you feel like something else?" she asked further.

"...also, you should bundle up and stay warm." she then suggested. "Don't need you getting a serious cold or anything." she reasoned with a smile.

As she laid down next to him, his murmurings became a little clearer. There was the occasional growl and snarl, obviously from the curse, as well as some mutterings about destruction and obliteration... clearly from his hunter DNA.

However, in between the two ideals arguing with each other, there was also heard what could only be her father... and he was quietly saying her name repeatedly.

His muscles were tensing up considerably, and the sweat falling down his face was getting far more frequent, and she could tell his fever was getting higher... the heat was practically emanating off of him.

Then it seemed like everything about him... his fever, his vitals... reaching an alarming high... and then it all seemed to go down to nearly equally alarming lows, as Marcus let out a very heavy breath, his body relaxing a bit TOO much now.

However, the machines indicated that that was a definite emergency, which caused Rene and several medical staff to come bursting into the room in a bit of a panic.

"Desiree!?" Rene exclaimed, seeing the girl in bed with her father.

Aly's smile disappeared, and she sighed.

"I know." she replied.

"I'll do what I can to make it more bearable for you." she then told him with a smirk.

"And you DO make me happy, and keep me happy." she then told him.

"After all, it's one of the many reasons I stay with you." she said further. "And that list is so long, I don't even know where it ends." she added.

He just shook his head, and made his way towards Marcus, checking him over.

'...fever's still high. Climbing slowly.' he thought.

'Vitals are all over the place, too.' he lamented.

'Your body is trying to kill itself. And eventually it'll succeed.' he went on. 'If Desiree is your reason for living, then now's a good time to prove it.' he sighed.

He then made sure that there was a pillow there for Desiree, and draped a blanket over her.

"......." he remained silent, before leaving the room. He had to tell two very important people about this.

When Desiree awoke, her father was still unconscious, and he seemed to be sweating heavily... though she swore she could hear murmuring coming from him.

Rene just sighed in response.

"This way." he said.

He then led her down the hallway, and opened the door for her, allowing her entry.

"I'll be back in a bit." he told her, closing the door.

Her father was in the room, laying on the bed, hooked up to various machines... and he looked to be in pain and agony, though he was unconscious.

It was worrisome, to say the least.

"......" Rene was silent again.

"That's... up to him." he said.

"You're free to go see him, but he's still unconscious." he told her.

"I'll be calling your school, as well." he then said further. "Let them know you won't be in." he continued.

"After what you just went through, yeah, schoolwork is NOT going to be at the front of your mind."

"......." Rene was silent as Desiree asked her questions.

"...well..." he muttered.

"His wounds were severe, but I managed to close them up, and they should heal." he told her.

"....but he's still in pain, and he's running a massive fever." he went on.

"....his body is at war with itself. His hunter DNA is trying to kill the curse that has been passed onto him, and vice versa." he then added.

"........" Rene was silent, before nodding.

"Of course." he responded.

With that, the three of them disappeared from where they were, in a bubble of water, appearing in OLA.

As soon as they got there, Rene got to work. He tended to Marcus' injuries, while others made sure Desiree was all right. It was determined that her injuries were minor, but Desiree also noted that the mages that worked there had an initial reaction of freezing suddenly when she saw them.

However, she had been treated and bandaged where needed, and she was now waiting for Rene to give her news about her father.

Some hours later, she saw him appear, sighing heavily and shaking his head slightly.

Rene froze for a moment when he saw the glint, much like the lycan had, but he shook his head and rushed towards Marcus, kneeling down next to him.

"....yep." he said.

"Gonna need to take you to a hospital." he told him.

"...you, too." he then said to Desiree.

"You're injured as well, it seems."

Aly just placed a finger over his lips.

"I know." she replied.

"But I also know that there needs to be some balance." she told him.

"A little bit of smothering is okay, but not too much." she went on. "I just need to learn when it's all right to dote on you, and when you need your space." she continued.

"Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, after all." she then reasoned.

"And don't worry, you didn't upset me." she added at the end, removing her finger and continuing to smile at him.

Because of the hour, he was, in fact, home.

And he was there as quickly as she had called out to him.

"What th-!?" he started to ask, before he saw the two of them.

"What the hell happened!?" he exclaimed.

Marcus was just silent, seemingly focused on the pain and agony he was feeling.

The lycan chose to flee, not wanting to die.

"I'll be back!" he yelled.

"Just you wait!" he added.

With that, he was gone, leaving Desiree and Marcus... with the latter clutching at the wound he'd received from the bite.

"...ah... ah..." he stammered.

"Ngh... errrgh!" he grunted and groaned further and pain.
