The drow didn't seem to react to her diving in for an attack, but more of the sharp tendrils emerged from the aura that surrounded him.

He narrowed his eyes, and the tendrils quickly crisscrossed in front of him, almost forming a net of mana.

"Hmph." he muttered.

"Impudent." he said, as the net shot forward, his aim to entangle her and control her.

The drow narrowed his eyes as she said what she did.

"Hm. It seems some of the insects have gotten full heads in the absence of the drows." he commented.

"Guess a little reeducation is needed." he finished.

He then flared his crimson mana out, and long tendril-like extensions shot out from his aura.

They then charged right towards Demi, aiming to spear her.

He just shrugged in response.

"It's nothing personal." he said.

"I just want someone to play with." he told her.

"And you seem fun." he reasoned.

"Don't look too deeply into it." he went on.

"Besides, consider it an honour to have the attention of a drow." he added, cockiness and pride in his tone.

"Sure." Ryker replied.

"The scales should rake in more than enough money." he reasoned.

"And still leave enough for supplies." he then muttered.

"Perhaps get a few more things for you." he then added, the complaining Eke had done about his hair earlier having not gone unnoticed by him.

There was silence from the forest, before a male drow stepped out into view.

"Interesting." he said.

"It's clear that you truly ARE more than meets the eye." he commented.

"Looks like I'll need to actually put some effort into this." he then said further, cracking his neck slightly, and shaking his hands a little to loosen them up.

"So let's play then, shall we?" he asked, as he suddenly became surrounded by a potent crimson red aura.

Ryker wrapped his hand around Eke's when he grabbed it, and bit his lip slightly.

'....hm.' he thought.

'....interesting...' he thought further, before shaking his head.

"Hm?" he then mumbled.

"Oh. Yeah. Yeah, it did." he replied.

"Seems the forest's 'curse' doesn't have what it takes to overcome my own." he lamented with a dejected sigh.

As she traversed the building, the footsteps continued to crush the fresh fallen leaves... until they stopped.

Completely and utterly.

There was absolute silence around her.

She was sure she wasn't hearing things... and her sense of smell, though nowhere near as good as when she was in her lupine form, told her she wasn't alone.

Meanwhile, a pair of red eyes watched her from the dense forest, studying her every move.

They then waited until her back was turned towards them, before launching a crimson orb of mana at her.

"Hyperthyroidism?" Ryker asked.

"......that might explain a few things." he said.

"Granted, I'm not a medic or anything, so I don't know too much about it, but it DOES explain why you're so small and always eating candy." he went on.

He then sighed and ate the fish, before gathering the scales.

"Let's go." he told him.

Ryker raised an eyebrow.

"...you've never had fruit or berries?" he asked.

"I mean, yeah, sure." he then said.

"Odds are there'll be some folks that sell them in the nearby town." he reasoned.

"We can grab some there."

"Like I said, there's fruit pieces in my water." Ryker responded.

"It's natural sugar, but it's still sugar." he told him.

"And they're berries, so they'll be pretty high in that sugar content." he went on.

"So feel free to pick at what's in there." he said.

"We'll head to the nearest town in an hour or so."

Chris just shrugged.

"Whatever." he said.

"Seriously. Just... whatever." he muttered.

He then stepped forward, brushing away some moss and dirt, revealing a small door leading underground.

"Come on, then." he said.

"If you have 'no other bloody choice', as you say, we're going underground." he told her.

Ryker was silent for a moment, blinking a few times, and then looking away.

"Mm. Yes." he muttered.

"And I'll eat one of these steaks." he told him, gesturing to the ones that were cooking.

"Shouldn't take long." he said.

"And if you're thirsty, there's cold water with some fruit chunks in my flask." he added, gesturing to the larger flask-shaped container that was beside him.

"There should be some special stones down there." Chris replied.

"If drow mana is placed in them, then this place, and the people within, become undetectable." he told her.

"Granted, it needs to be refilled every so often, but they should still be there." he went on.

"And they're surely empty right now." he added.

"So, we can go in and try and find them." he suggested.

"We should be." Chris responded.

"As far as Vanessa knows, the place is nothing but rubble." he said.

"Acid Slugs tend to demolish entirely whatever they chose to infest." he went on.

"But I guess something killed them off or drove them away from here." he continued.

"I remember seeing it years ago, but I didn't think to bring it up with her, as it would have served to do little more than waste her time." he sighed.

"Guess that was truly the right decision to make." he added.
