Ash just sighed.

"Of course." he said.

"Just... ugh. Of course." he repeated.

"Oh well." he muttered.

"Just gotta focus on the happy." he told himself.

"And the courtyard? Cool." he then said. "It's a beautiful place."

"One would think I would be." Ash responded.

"But you still manage to blindside me with the stuff you know." he told her.

"Anyway..." he then mumbled.

"Cass told me I can ditch early today, so that's cool." he continued.

"And today's the day, huh?" he asked.

"I can officially take Desiree home with me, as her legal guardian?"

Ash was silent as Emma said all she did.

"....right." he said.

"How?" he asked.

"I can buy that you knew I was coming, and close enough to speak to, but the nightmares is something I haven't told ANYONE about." he commented.

"You gonna tell me how you know this?" he asked.

"Or is that part of the grander mystery for me to ponder as I go get Desiree in the courtyard?"

Ash was silent, and raised an eyebrow.

'Hmmm.' he thought.

This would be a challenge. He was sure of it. But if there was anyone that could understand what she was going through, even a little, it was him.

He didn't want to see her go down a road that made things worse. He wanted to show her a better way. A way that showed her happiness was an option.

He vowed to do so.

-About a week later-

Ash stepped into the medical wing, a small smile on his face, and sighed lightly.

Today was the day. Desiree would be allowed to leave and go home with him. He was nervous, definitely, but eager to start a new life... for the both of them.

He looked around for a moment, before making his way towards where Emma said she would be..

Not really. Ash replied.

Just rest here and recuperate and let Emma help you. he told her.

That's all. he assured her.

It'll be a simple process. Just come home with me when Emma says it's all right for you to.

You're welcome. Ash replied to her.

It'll be a week or so, but you'll be coming home with me. he repeated.

So, prepare for that. he then sent.

I just hope I can be a good parent to you.

Moons are really pretty. Ash sent her.

But all right, thanks. he then sent, before pausing.

By the way, you'll be here for about another week or so, but when you're allowed to leave, you'll be coming home with me. he informed her.

Everyone needs a home, and I would be really happy if you let me give you that home.

Good, good. Ash sent.

I have a few questions for you. he then sent to her.

Do you have any favourite colours? Or patterns? Or anything like that? he asked her.

Anything you... particularly like, as far as looks go?

Ash smiled at her.

"Heh. Thanks." he responded.

"It's nice to hear something definitive. It might not sway anyone's opinion, but it's nice to hear." he told her.

"Anyway, see you." he finished, before leaving the office and making his way to Desiree.

Hey again. he messaged her.

How are you feeling? he asked.

Ash was silent for a moment, and grumbled.

"I know." he replied.

"Trust me. I know." he said.

"They always argue about what I am. I'm getting sick and tired of it." he growled further.

"Regardless, I'll go and talk to Desiree." he told her.

"Thanks for all the help."

"....okay, THAT'S just freaky." he muttered, looking at the text.

"Seriously. That's... like, some creepy story on the internet kinda thing. Or some indie horror game material." he commented further, before shrugging.

"But hey. It helps, so it's cool." he reasoned, pocketing the phone again.

"There anything else needed here?" he asked her. "Because if not, I'm going to go ask Desiree some questions, and let her know she'll be going home with me." he told her.

"Well... new home. For the both of us." he added.

"...mm." Ash muttered.

"When YOU don't know the answer to something, that's... ominous." he said.

"Oh well." he sighed.

"I suppose that's as good as a 'no'." he muttered, finishing up with the papers.

"Well, there you go." he told her, sliding the folder over. "I trust everything's in order." he continued, before thinking about something.

"I guess I ought to go on a bit of a furniture spending spree." he said.

"Make sure the new place is properly furnished." he went on.

"By the way, did you get Desiree's sizes?" he asked her. "Like, for clothing and stuff." he clarified.

Ash smiled in response.

"That'll help immensely." he said.

"...suppose I should go and see Desiree." he commented.

"Let her know I'll be taking her home with me soon." he said further.

"...Emma..." he then muttered.

"You said she's almost completely deaf." he said.

"Does she not have any chance at all to possibly hear?" he asked.

Ash accepted the folder and looked through the contents.

"I..." he stammered.

"Geez." he said. "How many moves ahead can you SEE?" he asked, though it was clearly rhetorical.

"But... all right." he said further, grabbing a pen and starting to sign where he needed.

"You sure this'll go through?" he asked her.

"I mean... I'll be living with people that... which is to say, she... I mean..." he stammered, before shaking his head.

"The 'Fyrane' stigma, and all." he said bluntly.
