She then heard some mumbling outside her door.

She heard the staff member, and Jackson.

She couldn't make out what was being said, but she got the gist of it through their tones.

Jackson's was impatient and worried, but afterwards, it was calmer and filled with relief.

It wasn't hard to guess what the conversation was about.

The staff member chuckled.

"I will do so." they told her.

"Just rest for now." they said.

"Odds are you'll be called in to recount the events in the cafeteria." they went on. "And you'll need some rest to do that properly." they reasoned.

"We'll be back periodically to check up on you." they finished.

With that, they turned the lights off, and left, shutting the door behind them.

"We can only hope." the member replied.

A few minutes later, they finished the job.

"Lay down." they told her.

"You must need some rest after that." they said.

"You were unstable earlier." they went on, pausing for a moment. "And I doubt that's changed."

"We try." the staff member replied, as she prepped the spot, and got to work.

"Heaven help us, we try." they told her.

"But it's not always easy." they then sighed.

"But every so often, we see results." they continued.

"Like Jackson."

"Well, it used to be worse." the staff member replied.

"I'm speaking more recently. Within the past... 20 years or so." they told her.

"This school has done well in establishing order and such." they went on, as they started to get things ready. "We do everything we can to prepare those that are gifted." they went on.

"We want to show the world that mutants are not to be feared and loathed." they said.

"And to do that, we must respect human society, and all that it entails."

"You'll need stitches, unfortunately." the staff member replied.

"Seems the fall you took to the floor is what did it." they told her.

"Beyond that, some bruises and scratches and such, but they'll heal on their own." they then assured her.

"And you'll only need a few stitches." they then assured her.

"But still... that was a nasty little altercation for this school."

"Denise has been very discreet." the staff member replied.

"We cannot do anything without proof, even if we know about what she does." they went on.

"Such is the nature of the rules." they lamented, shaking their head.

"But now we have proof." they told her.

"And aggravated assault is very serious."

Again, the staff member sighed.

"You will receive a verbal warning about the usage of one's powers on site, without permission." they said.

"Denise... I cannot say." they went on.

"Which is to say, I cannot tell you what her punishment will be." they then clarified.

"But I do know it has been a long time coming." they told her candidly.

"Rest assured, favouritism is something we do NOT do here."

The staff member sighed.

"Word travels fast." they said.

"We know about what happened in the cafeteria." they told her.

"Officially speaking, we'll be giving you a reprimand." they went on, before pausing, and looking around.

"Unofficially... thank you." they whispered.

"....that makes sense..." Jackson muttered.

They then checked in with one of the staff members there, and not even a minute later, someone showed up.

"Come on." they said to Sierra.

"The sooner we tend to that wound, the better." they told her.

"I'll wait here." Jackson said.

"I.... I see." Jackson replied.

"Well... well, hopefully we can stop that from happening." he said.

"That sounds terrifying." he commented, as they entered the medical wing.

"Right, we're here." he told her.

"How's the head?"

"I..... I see." Jackson replied.

"That's.... huh." he muttered.

"Fascinating, and a bit unnerving." he went on.

"Means souls are... well... kinda fungible, really." he reasoned.

"Huh." he repeated.

"Anyway, we're almost there." he told her.

"And... going insane?" he then asked.

Jackson just sighed.

"Good." he replied.

"Wait...." he then muttered.

"So... does the body you inhabit still age?" he asked.

"Or... like, do you have a limited time to be in any given... er... container?" he asked further.

Jackson raised an eyebrow.

"If she doesn't learn her lesson." he said.

"Come on, now." he went on.

"There's comeuppance, and then there's cruelty." he said further.

"Try not to cross that line, please." he asked of her.

"You seem too nice to." he finished.
