Jaden was silent for a moment, accepting the book.

"Uh... right, thanks." he said.

"I just got back about 5 minutes ago..." he told her, before pausing.

"You look... scared." he commented.

"Did something happen?" he asked her.

"Because you look like a spooked small woodland creature."

After about 20 seconds, there was a knock on her door.

"Desiree?" Jaden said from the other side of it.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"I felt your mana presence, but I thought you weren't going to mana home." he went on.

"Something happen?" he asked further, concern in his tone.

She continued to walk, and the feeling of being watched and followed got worse... and worse... and worse.

Until she could swear someone was breathing down the back of her neck.

Sure enough, when she whirled around... nothing.

However, she then swore she heard running footsteps coming at her from behind.

And when she whirled around back the way she had been facing... nothing.

Not a single person.

"Oh, no, of course not." he replied, stepping out of the way.

"Have a good day, Miss." he told her.

He then walked past her, and she watched him go for a moment, turning back around and seeing someone staring at her from around a corner. RIGHT at her.

However, when she blinked to get a better view, they were gone.

Or were they even there to begin with?

The man was silent for a moment.

"Oh, I see." he said.

"Well, that WOULD make someone jumpy." he admitted with a small laugh.

"But are you sure you're all right?" he asked.

"Not injured or anything?" he asked further.

As she walked, she felt the presence.

It seemed to always be there.

Watching her. Continuously.

And sure enough, she swore she heard her name a few times.

But it was always nothing.

Until she looked over her shoulder again, and accidentally walked into someone.

"Oh, excuse me." the man said.

"I wasn't looking where I was going." he apologised.

"Are you all right, Miss?" he asked.

"For sure." Jaden agreed.

"Hell, I would've even given a pass to them pulling a 'she's scarred and damaged and the killer's soul returns from hell, possessing her and causing HER to commit the murders all over again' kinda thing." he said.

"Yeah, it would have been ass-pully and a little on the 'B-movie' side of things, but it'd still be acceptable." he went on.

"At least for me, anyway." he continued.

"With THAT ending, all they did was ruin what the entire rest of the movie built up."

"I know, right?" Jaden responded.

"I mean, they clearly had him fall into a trash compacter. And it was never shown that he had supernatural abilities or anything like that, he was just some dude." he went on.

"And then they pull this, showing massive injuries?" he went on.

"Yeah, no." he said.

"Odds are they would've pulled the whole 'gotcha, it was Satan, OOoOOoOOOoo' bunk."

"100% agree." Jaden replied.

He turned it to the channel, and what they saw was someone apparently getting jumped by someone hiding behind a tree... and then credits.

"...ah." he said.

"They really wanted a sequel, so they sequel-baited." he muttered.

"And it never happened." he went on.

"Shame. Was a decent movie overall. Looks like we saw the last second of it before the credits." he laughed.

"As you command!" Ryker yelled.

With that, he started it up, and they were on the road again.

"Ahhh, the wind feels good." he said.

"Eke, wanna do me a favour?" he asked.

"Get me a bottle of water." he continued.

"I'm thirsty."

"I'll say." Jaden responded.

"I never would have expected it." he told her.

"Ah, here we go." he said.

"ScareTV has... well, it's a half-hour into 'Return of the Swamp Stabber'." he commented. "And... ScareTV-2 has 'Keep Quiet' coming on in about 12 minutes or so." he told her.

"Got a preference?" he asked.

Jaden was silent for another moment, almost processing what she had just told him.

"I... uh..." he stammered.

"Wow." he said. "I was NOT expecting that answer." he admitted.

"And I like horror as well, though I tend to gravitate towards more psychological ones." he told her.

"But a good bad-slasher movie is always something I can appreciate." he then added with a small chuckle.

"I'll see what's playing." he said, turning on the TV.

"That channel... ScareTV, I think?... always has something playing."

Jaden nodded.

"Yeah, that makes sense." he said.

"And yeah, it seems things really have worked out for you and your mana." he commented.

"Good. That's good." he went on.

He then paused for a moment, thinking about something.

"So, uh..." he stammered.

"You like movies?" he asked.

"We can watch one while we wait for the food."

Jaden was silent for a moment... before sighing quietly.

"I... yeah, I think I can understand that." he said.

"It... really sucks that you had to... well... learn that there's nothing wrong with being a mage." he then commented.

"But at least you did learn." he reasoned.

"And it's really cool that being a magician helped with that."
