Zeke just sighed.

"Ugh." he grunted.

"It's just weird, okay?" he asked.

"You look human, but you're not." he said.

"It's... it's weird! It's unnatural!" he went on, before pausing.

"...ok, scratch that last one. I'M unnatural.' he muttered.

"But... just... my DNA can't deal with this. Half of it, anyway."

Zeke just narrowed his eyes as Lunet said all she did.

"...." he was silent, almost unblinking.

"Ngh." he grunted.

"This thing doesn't sit right with me." he told her.

"I... it's just... this feeling is... damn it." he went on, shaking his head.

"My DNA is screaming at me." he continued.

As he did, he just clenched his fists, before taking a few deep breaths, in an attempt to calm himself down.

Again, Zeke was silent.

"Okay." he replied.

"Really doesn't answer my question, though." he said.

"WHAT is it?" he asked Lunet.

"Because I am getting some damn weird static in terms of my 'life-sensors'." he muttered.

"Something just ain't sitting right."

The walk started out uneventful. A few people walked by, but just gave quick, generic 'hellos', while some briefly looked at the unfamiliar one, before shrugging and continuing on their way.

However, that changed when a door they were getting close to suddenly opened, and Zeke stepped out.

"What in the name of-" he muttered.

He then looked right at Chloe.

RIGHT at her.

"...and what is this?" he asked.

"What in the name of the realms IS it?"

"....ah." Jake said, having finished reading the letter by the time Lunet had said what she did.

"I see." he said further.

"Well, whatever." he muttered.

"Letter checks out, your mana checks out." he said.

"In you go." he finished, pushing the button to allow her entrance.

Jake raised his eyebrow when she said what she did.

"Uh... hey, Lunet." he greeted her, accepting the letter, and then looking at Chloe.

"....uhhhhhh..." he mumbled.

There was then a 'sst' sound that was heard, before he froze.

"....what the....?" he whispered.

"Woah, woah, hang on..." he said.

"...no, wait, what the HELL?" he finished, looking at what the letter said, wondering if it would provide answers.

"Yes. Yes, it will be." Hal replied, sighing once more.

-The Next Day-

Jake was silent as he looked through the newspaper.

"Mmhmm, mmhmm." he mumbled, before chuckling.

"Heh. Wonder if this guy knows how right he is, or if he's just a blithering idiot." he said under his breath.

He then sighed, and looked at the clock.

"Suppose I should be thinking about lunch soon... it IS 12:45..." he mumbled, shaking his head a little.

"Eh, I'll wait 'til 1." he finished with a shrug.

"Very well." Hal responded.

"All we need to do is wait-" he started to say, before her phone chimed. "...for his response." he added with a laugh.

Sure thing. the message said.

I'll have that done up and sent later tonight. the next message read.

"Odds are that'll be done up soon." Hal commented, before looking at Chloe.

"...this will be interesting, indeed..." he mumbled quietly.

Hal nodded.

"Yes." he replied.

"That would be best." he told her.

He then thought for a moment, and sighed.

"Best get Leonard's 'approval'." he said.

"Ie: a letter or a fake bill, showing I paid for her, and that Leonard is getting you to deliver her." he reasoned.

"If we're going to pull the wool over their eyes in terms of who is responsible for her advanced tech, we need to go all the way."

"Afternoon." Hal confirmed.

"Doesn't matter WHEN in the afternoon, so long as it's after 12:30." he said.

"I'll make sure-" he then started to say, before smirking.

"No. I won't." he said.

"I was about to say I'll make sure Jake is expecting you and Chloe." he told her.

"But he knows you. And it'll be funnier if you surprise him with Chloe." he reasoned with a chuckle.

"Oh, he'll be miffed at me for a bit, but it shall be worth it."

"I'm not fond of it either." Hal responded.

There was then silence for another moment, before the embrace was broken.

"Bring Chloe to the Unit tomorrow." he restated.

"We'll get her set up there, and make sure she had somewhere to go for the night and such." he continued.

He then paused, and thought for a moment.

"Not sure if you want your personal info, such as your paypal, on her when she's working for the Unit." he then said.

"So I'll leave you to tweak and finetune that sort of thing tonight."

Again, Hal was silent for a moment.

"...I'm sorry..." he then said quietly.

"My power may seem endless at times, but it has its limits." he said. "And this is one of them." he continued.

"I cannot do anything about the prejudices in the hearts of humans." he lamented, holding his daughter close.

It was one of the things that he was reminded of every so often. Lunet was doing well for herself, she had a good life, she had friends and family, she was helped to overcome her visual challenges... but there would be people in this world that wouldn't be able to see past the visor, and judge her solely based on the fact that she required it to see.

"It's ironic." he said.

"The truly blind ones, are the ones that see your visor... but that is ALL that they see."

"....." Hal was silent for a moment, before leaning in close and giving her a hug.

"Lunet..." he said.

"I know. It's not fair, is it?" he asked rhetorically.

"But don't feel you need to work for me because you feel like nobody else will accept you." he told her.

"If you prove yourself, the Unit will happily employ you." he then said further.

"But I'm sure you'll be able to find your way, even if you don't work for the Unit." he then assured her.

"And Lunet? Time and time again, you prove just how gifted and talented you are." he added.

Hal just crossed his arms over his chest, and laughed.

"Really!" he exclaimed.

"Already, I'm liking Chloe more and more!" he declared.

"But really. 1500 pounds a week?" he asked.

"What in the name of everything are you thinking, wanting to work for me?" he then asked her.

"You're clearly making more than I would pay. FAR more." he commented.

"You'd be downgrading to work in the Unit. Slumming it!" he added with another laugh.
