Aym was silent as he witnessed this, and saw the spiders were still frozen.

".....I see." he said.

"Seems like they were taking orders from the larger one. And the corruption made them blindly loyal... to a fault." he commented.

"Now, without their leader giving them orders... they're just... motionless. Still." he went on.

"Useless." he sighed.

"We need to find where this originated from." he told Callie.

"I get the feeling it's nearby."

The spider yelled again, and stumble back.

Adym then fired an arrow. It connected and exploded.

The spider continued to stagger back.

Both Adym and Callie continued to fire arrows, until they were out, and just as the spiders were about a foot away... they saw the large creature stagger back... lose its balance... and fall back.

Which was when they heard a sickening squelching sound.

This caused the other spiders to freeze where they were.

"I'll be quick." Adym responded.

And he got to work.

As he worked, Callie tried her best to keep the hoard at bay, using Adym's arrows as well.

Just as she fired the last one, she was handed about 5 arrows, each with leaves wrapped around... something... at their tips.

"Fire at the face area." he said.

"They'll explode and hopefully knock it onto that broken pillar."

"I can't bring it down to our level." Adym responded.

"...that being said, it's true that the eyes are on top of it." he muttered.

He'd somehow forgotten to include that in his calculations.

He then snapped his fingers.

"Ah!" he exclaimed.

"Wait!" he said.

"Maybe we won't NEED to hit its eyes!" he told her, looking around.

"I think I can fashion explosive arrows for us to use." he continued.

"But I'll need you to keep the smaller ones at bay, as I quickly fashion them up."

"......." Adym was silent for a moment.

"Well, I can aim for the eyes." he said.

"If you think you can get to a better vantage point to help with that, let me know." he told her.

"Otherwise, you might be relegated to dealing with the smaller ones headed our way." he muttered, as the smaller ones started to close in.

"What do you say?" he asked.

"Either of those good? Or you have another idea?"

"Been better." Adym responded.

"But I'm okay." he told her.

"....." he was then silent, and paused for a moment.

"Wait..." he said.

"Callie, I might have an idea." he told her further.

"If... If we manage to disorient it, we might be able to get it to fall on that broken pillar." he explained.

"I'm thinking if it takes arrows to the eyes, that might do it."

Sure enough, she was right.

Just as the spiders inside the large one were coming near her, the pain from her attack registered, and it screeched, opening its mouth and releasing her... causing her to fall towards the ground.

Adym noticed this, and raced to try and catch her... to which he sort of succeeded.

He managed to get under her, but he didn't so much 'catch' her, as he 'allowed her to fall onto him, thus breaking her fall'.

He grunted in pain when she landed on him, but sighed.

"Callie, are you okay?" he asked her, as the large arachnid stumbled back, slamming into a cracked pillar that was nearby, breaking it in half.

"CALLIE, NO!" Adym yelled, as he started to race towards her.

But it was too late.

The guardian had reached her, and thrust its head towards her, its mouth agape. It then managed to clamp down on her.

"NO!" Adym screeched... but he saw the spider had... kind of missed her.

Thanks to how big the fangs were, and their spacing, Callie hadn't been pierced. However, the fangs were pinching her, and had cut her... as it lifted her up in its mouth.

"Damn it!" Adym cursed, as he started to try and dodge the smaller spiders that were starting to surround him.

Ryker shook his head.

"It's not that." he said.

"I'm just warning you." he told her.

"My two consciousnesses might meld together a bit." he explained.

"I mean, the plan was for that to kinda happen anyway, but... just... hm." he then mumbled, thinking about it.

"It's... weird to explain." he said.

"Housing another entity in your mind and body is... awkward." he chuckled.

"CALLIE!" Adym yelled, as he saw her take the hit she did.

He then started to race towards her, but it seemed like that moment of distraction was all the spider needed.

Adym then found himself blindsided by one of the legs, slamming into him and throwing him forcefully off to the side, landing on the ground and rolling around violently, eventually stopping in a heap.

"Ngh." he groaned, as he felt the pain course through him.

He then got back to his feet as well, covered in minor cuts now.

Adym saw that Callie was persevering, so he decided to back her up.

It was all he COULD do.

So he notched arrow after arrow, and shot down the smaller ones.

However, the bigger spider then started to thrash more violently... it seemed like it was actively trying to shake her off now.

"AH! Crap!' Adym yelled as he dodged a stomping leg.

Even the smaller spiders started to fly off.

Adym watched as Callie started to make her way towards the head... but then something happened.

Something he could have never expected or planned for.

The spider opened its mouth slightly... and dozens upon dozens of smaller arachnids, about the size of camel spiders, came crawling out, and towards Callie.

But something seemed off about them... they looked like they were almost coated in a strange black tar...

'...are they like that because of the corruption?' he wondered, before shaking his head.

"CALLIE! WATCH OUT!" he called to her.

Adym just gritted his teeth, but didn't have time to argue.

The spider had noticed that Callie was climbing its leg... and it wasn't happy.

It looked ready to strike her, or shake her off, which caused Adym to fire another arrow at its face, in an attempt to distract it.

It worked... and the large arachnid was now trying to stomp on the wood elf.

Meanwhile, as Callie climbed, she felt her hands start to... sting, a bit. Her palms and fingers were becoming red and raw, and there was a good chance it was because the hairs on the spider's leg had some kind of irritant on them.

But that's all it seemed to be for now; an irritant.

She had bigger problems with trying to hold onto the hairs, as it thrashed and stomped about.

Ryker just sighed.

"You've done more than enough." he told her.

"This has already given us time to think and plan and such." he went on.

He then cracked his knuckles, and sighed once more, this time more heavily.

"After this fight... no matter the result... I will be different." he said.

"I think the two that I am, may become more of one." he continued.

"...probably due to the expenditure of power I'll probably use." he reasoned.
