Forgive, O Lord,
my little jokes on thee...

"Damn it." he cursed, before grabbing his cell phone and calling Angela again.

"I'm bringing Casey to the Unit." he said when she answered.

"She's on the floor, she seems to be having a VERY hard time breathing, and there's some strange burn marks on her. They're hard to explain, you'll see when I bring her there." he said further.

"I'll be there ASAP." he then finished.

"There anything else you need or want to know?" he asked.

...and I'll forgive thy
great big one on me.

Forgive, O Lord,
my little jokes on thee...

Hal snapped his fingers and instantly got the info.

"Thank you." he said to her.

He then hung up and disappeared from where he was, appearing in the cabin. He saw her and raced over.

"Casey!" he exclaimed.

"Hello? Hello!?" Hal said into the phone, but there was no answer.

"Damn it!" he cursed, before hanging up and calling Angela.

"Angela, quick." he said when she answered.

"Casey Kiczys called me and said nothing. I fear she may be in danger, but I don't know where she is." he continued.

"Please. You know what to do."

my little jokes on thee...

When the mana surged through the area, none of the remaining Fallen could do anything. Her mana coursed through their bodies, causing them to collapse to the ground and flail about, their movements sporadic and violent.

"D-d-damn it!" one cursed.

"We have to f-follow!" another said.

The third tried to do so... but ended up falling into the water that was nearby, causing the electric mana to intensify... which seemingly killed them on the spot, their body lifeless and turning to blackness, as the halo sank to the bottom of the stream.

"...we'll find her again." the first one vowed.

"She can't run and hide forever."

great big one on me.

The aether seemed to almost 'bubble', as the halo fell to the ground and rolled around for a few seconds, the other three watching in horror. One of them then narrowed their eyes, and formed the mana in BOTH their palms.

"You bitch." they cursed.

"We TRIED to be nice." they said further.

"Now GO DOWN!" they yelled, as they fired a wild barrage of the beams at her. There seemed to be about 20 of them, but as they flew, it seemed about 10 were going to hit her. 7 at her torso, and the others at her arms and legs.

great big one on me.

As soon as she released her suppression, the ones that had surrounded her looked to almost have been affected by a sudden increase in gravity. They all looked like they struggled to stand, and the one that was being held in place was struggling like mad to escape.

One of the 3 still standing extended their hand, and she saw small beams of tainted light swirl into their palm, forming what looked like an orb of 'rusty mana' if she were to describe it.

The orb then shot forward, turning into 5 thin beams of the mana.

3 were aimed at her chest, and 2 for her legs.

"You have not." one answered.

"And as for how We are VERY in tune with those that connect to the afterlife." they said.

"The fact it took us THIS long to find you shows just how well you were hiding." another told her.

"Last chance. Come with us non-violently." they warned.

"...again. No." Casey said flatly.

One that was behind her responded to that by leaping towards her to tackle her down.

One of the ones in front of her spoke. Calmly. Quietly.

"You've done a good job hiding yourself." they said. "Looking like someone else, constantly changing it, adopting a nomadic lifestyle, suppressing your mana to an impressive degree..." they went on.

"It wasn't easy, but we finally found you." they said further.

"Now come with us." the second one in front of her said.

"If you do, we won't need to break your arms and legs first."

As she finished the text and looked at the water, she saw her own reflection in it. Or, rather, the reflection of the current disguise glamour she was wearing. She didn't even recognise herself, which was a good thing in this instance.

However, she barely had time to look at the face staring back at her, when she felt it.

She looked back up and saw 2 cloaked figured walking towards her... and she saw cracked halos above their heads, which she was sure she could only see because of her mana.

But that wasn't all, she also felt the same sort of thing coming from behind her.

Vincewnt nodded as well, and smiled.

"Well then." he said.

"Let's melt into this lovely water, eat the food we have here, drink what we brought up as well, and relax." he suggested.

He then clapped his hands, and the lights dimmed to make a more moody atmosphere.

"Want some music?" he asked.

"We have that relaxing playlist on that online music service." he reminded her.

my little jokes on thee...

Vincent shrugged.

"All right, fair enough." he said.

"But we should be on the lookout for anyone that looks like they're getting sick, and shouldn't be, just in case." he suggested.

"Keep an eye and ear open and such and blah blah blah." he went on.

"But as you said, it's highly doubtful anyone else has it."

Vincent just pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Ngh." he groaned lightly.

"Fair." he said.

"I'll get right on that." he told her. "...well, after the world's done turning to shit." he clarified.

He then sighed heavily, and laid his head back against the tub.

"So Kelly and Ashleigh have these parasites. Or had. Whatever." he said.

"...does anyone else we know have them?"

"...oh, dear." Vincent mumbled.

"Perhaps we should thank our lucky stars that neither you or Racquel have gotten them then, seeing as I use Rock Roots in... well, as you said, my more fragile flora." he commented, before pausing.

"...unless either of you HAVE, and have dealt with it without my knowing." he then said.

"HAVE you?" he asked.

"Or have the two of you been lucky thus far?"

my little jokes on thee...

"Good heavens." Vincent replied.

"No WONDER the treatment was what it was." he said.

"When there is no sustainable heat for them, they go dormant. When it gets cold far too quickly for them to adapt, they die." he recalled.

"...but I thought them extinct." he then said further.

"Where on EARTH did they come from?"
