"Shit." he cursed.

"Right, hold on." he said.

"Sir, is...?" one of the others that were there started to ask, before he interrupted.

"There's still time." he told them. "Leave her to me. You just deal with getting that disgrace out of here." he snarled.

"Disgrace!?" the original one yelled. "YOU'RE the disgrace! We are of a proud heritage! We need to show the lower ones that we will NOT be-" they started to holler, before they were interrupted.

"YOU are the reason we are considered monsters." the man sighed. "You give in to your desires and become a monster." he said further.

"This might sting a little." he told the girl, before he lightly grabbed her arm and brought a needle to her skin. He then pressed the needle against it, but the surface would not break. It had SOME give to it, but the needle wouldn't pierce.

"...damn it." he cursed.

"Plan B." he muttered, before cracking open the syringes and pouring them into a small beaker. He mixed something into them, and shook it a little.

"All right, I'm going to give you something to drink." he told her. "It's going to be sour as all get-out, but you'll need to swallow it, okay?" he continued.

"Ready?" he asked, bringing it closer to her mouth.

"....interesting." she heard them say.

"Normally this is quicker. There's something... different about you." they went on.

"Oh well, no matter. In the end, it will be the same." they continued with a dark chuckle. "You'll be seen and not heard, as all children should be." they then finished, a hint of pride and happiness to their tone. It was an ominous happiness, too, which made it worse.

However, she then heard a loud crashing sound, and a number of footsteps.

"THERE! NOW!" a voice shouted, as people crashed into the room.

"What the!?" the previous voice growled, before a number of the people tackled them down to the floor.

"Cover the eyes! And don't let them knock off your shades!" a voice ordered, before the one that seemed to be in charge of it all made their way towards the girl.

"Hey." they said to her in a soft tone.

"Are you all right?" they asked her. "How do you feel?"

"Tired?" Aly asked.

"It's not surprising." she said.

"You've been through a lot." she reasoned.

"For now, climb back into bed and rest for a while." she suggested.

"Are you feeling hungry at all?" she asked him.

Marcus shook his head vigourously.

"No, no, no, it's not that." he said.

"Not that at all." he told her.

"I... I would be greatly honoured if you allowed me to be a part of the child's life." he said.

"...and yours as well, I assume?" he then asked.

"That is... well... are you saying that you want me in your life?"

Marcus was stunned to the point of silence, before he shook his head slightly.

"Ah... a..." he stammered.

"A grandfather?" he asked.

He then looked at Desiree's stomach... and blinked a few times.

"A... grandfather." he confirmed.

"....Desiree, you..." he went on, his eyes starting to tear up slightly.

"You'd really want me in my grandchild's life?" he asked her.

Again, Marcus was silent, before nodding slowly.

"Well... personal reasons... fears... semantics, I suppose." he muttered.

"And a request?" he asked.

"Of course." he told her.

"What is it?" he asked further, pausing and holding his breath for a moment.

He had no idea what to expect here, but he was preparing for the worst.

Marcus bit his lip slightly, but nodded.

"Sure." he replied, stepping out of the way so she could enter.

Once she did, he shut the door behind her, and sighed.

"Sorry the place isn't as luxurious as others." he apologised. "I live a rather simple lifestyle." he said.

"...anyway, I assume you got my address from Rocky?" he asked.

"Did anyone fill you in on what happened in the blank in your memory?" he asked further.

After some time, Marcus was in the place he had claimed as his home. Rocky had spent some time with him, but shortly left, as she had her own things to attend to.

"...heh." he chuckled, as he made himself some breakfast.

"I'm so lucky to have met Rocky." he told himself.

"One of the few rays of light in my life." he added, his cheeks turning slightly red.

"A shame nothing will come of it." he sighed, as he finished doing up his toast... just as he heard a knock on the door.

"Eh?" he muttered, making his way towards her, but freezing when he was a few steps away.

"...did she...?" he whispered, sensing who was there, before shaking his head, shakily grabbing the doorknob... and opening the door.

Marcus looked at Rocky, and nodded.

He made his way towards her, and looked at Kalin.

"Farewell for now." he told her.

With that, he accepted the Fyrane's hand, and smiled.

"All right, I'm ready." he told her.

Marc thought for a moment, and nodded.

"Sure." he replied.

"That might be best." he told her.

"Odds are things are being wrapped up and such, and people will want to see them." he went on, gesturing to Kalin and Desiree.

"It was lovely to meet you, Ms. Kiczys." he told Kalin.

"Sad it had to be under such dire circumstances." he added.

Marc was silent for a moment.

".....Rocky knows where I live." he said.

"If you want to tell Desiree what happened... you are free to. And... and if she asks, then you can tell her where I'll be." he told the two of them, but Rocky more specifically.

"It'll be best if I leave, though." he then went on.

"Mostly because there are people that care about you and Desiree." he told Kalin. "They'll want to see you." he went on.

"It'll make things a lot less awkward if I'm not around for it." he reasoned.

"And that's not meant to be self-depreciation or whatever, it's just... well, more a statement on how I'm a hunter they won't know, and gut reactions will be predictable."

Marcus just sighed again, but there was a smile to this one.

"Well, a favour is always handy." he said.

"And there's nothing I can do about your wallet, I'm sorry." he apologised.

"It's probably still at their hideout." he went on.

"And odds are one of the people there will find it after their attack."

Marcus shook his head.

"Nothing." he replied.

"Seriously. I don't do what I do for rewards." he told her.

"I do it because it's right." he said.

"...." he was then silent, and sighed heavily.

"But I can see you're one of those types that won't accept that for an answer." he commented, before starting to seriously think about something.

"To be honest, I'm not sure about repayment." he admitted.

Marcus just smiled softly.

"I can always count on Rocky." he told her.

"No matter what, she has what I need, and what will help." he said.

"When Desiree wakes up, she'll be feeling like she has a bit of a hangover, but she'll be just fine." he assured Kalin.

"Also, I apologise for not acting sooner, and leaving you to get as bad as you did." he then said to her.

"You were pushed to your limit, and didn't have much time left." he went on.

"But I needed to make sure I could get you both out unnoticed."
