Forgive, O Lord,
my little jokes on thee...

Marros just chuckled.

"Quite rough." he told her.

"Yes, and yes." he then said.

"She is being torn apart at a molecular level... but she'll survive. Again and again." he said further.

"Thus is the nature of a regenerator." he continued.

"She'll be one. But a... less efficient one."

great big one on me.

Marros stood back up and smiled at her.

"Oh, my charm is nothing when compared to your beauty." he stated.

"That being said, you may wish to go to that pit." he told her.

"There's a girl in there, and... well... let's just say that the pit that those fools made was... rough." he went on.

"I admit, I didn't expect them to go THAT far." he then admitted.

"When humans blindly follow something, their devotion surprises even MYSELF." he mused.

"Fascinating, really."

Forgive, O Lord,
my little jokes on thee...

A slender demon clad in formal dress seemed to step out from a tear in reality, gently clapping his gloved hands.

"My, my, my." he said.

"It seems my fun is over." he commented.

"Looks like the cult is all dead. What a pity." he continued.

"Hello once more, Miss Anya." he then greeted her, taking her hand and gently kissing the top of it, as he knelt down some.

To others, this would be seen as mocking. Or could be. But she knew. This was just how he was.

Before he could respond, he froze. Legitimately, he froze.

And then he started to scream. He fell back onto his ass, yelling at... something... before he collapsed onto his back, the spiders still crawling all over him, biting and clawing at him.

The screaming didn't last long, though, as a deep-fanged bite to his throat seemed to cut off his ability to speak, and he was now nothing more than a writing silent mass of agony and pain.

He had become little more than suffering, itself.

However, Anya knew that they were being watched from somewhere. She could feel it.

The man was silent for a moment, horror and terror etched into his face, before he suddenly found the strength to move. And he used that strength to fling himself onto her feet, throwing himself at her mercy.

"PLEASE! Spare me, master!" he begged.

"I will do whatever you wish! Whatever pain and suffering you wish, I will do everything for you!" he declared.

"I forsake Roth'gut and pledge my loyalty to YOU and ONLY YOU!" he finished.

Which spoke to his character.

A power-hungry, frightened, sniveling worm.

The man was clearly scared. Almost out of his mind.

"She... she had the perfect background." he said.

"Her pain... her suffering... her loneliness... she was perfect." he told her.

"But we tried to bring that suffering back. She would know it again." he continued.

"Surely that was enough for the great Roth'gut." he went on.

"..........or was it not?"

The man looked over towards Anya, his shrunken pupils vibrating with fear.

"Ah... ah... ah..." he stammered.

"D-d-d-d-demon?" he then managed to get out.

"You're... you're n-not the one we wished to summon." he continued, finding it impossible to move now.

"Did... was the girl not enough?" he asked.

"We made it so she would suffer infinitely. Was that not enough!?"

Not surprisingly, the cultists were alarmed and terrified. They screamed out in horror and pain, trying desperately to get the spiders off of them, but no matter what they did, the tide of arachnids was practically inexorable.

That's when Anya noticed one of them racing out of the woods.

She judged from how ceremonial his garb was, that he was the leader.

And he hadn't noticed her yet.

He was looking back at the forest area, trying to escape the spiders, man of which were clinging to him.

"You too." Jake responded.

He then ducked back down into the shrubbery, and all but disappeared. That was one thing Ramaarin were good at, she had to admit. They didn't quite have camouflage, but they really knew how to blend in.

She then made her way into the park, and the closer she got to the forested area, the more she swore she heard... chanting.

Chanting, and the repeated name of the deity they worshipped.

And how a girl's infinite torment would be the sacrifice needed.

Jake shook his head.

"Not really." he said.

"Some robed dudes were milling about, but they quickly scurried into that forested area." he continued, pointing to a corner of the park.

And Anya could see it with her eyes.

Through the thin cracks in the forest and bushes... a green glow.

The green glow of the Pit.

When Anya arrived at the park, immediately she knew something was going on. She could feel it. As she stepped up to the taped-off entrance gate, she saw something move out of the corner of her eye in the nearby bushes.

Which was when Jake popped out.

"Just me." he whispered.

"Some SERIOUS shit it happened in there." he told her.

"Even -I- can feel it in the air."

"Got it." Jake responded.

"Actually, I'll hang around the outskirts of it." he then told her.

"I won't go further in, but it might be helpful to have someone skulking about to deal with outside problems or potential distractions." he reasoned.

"But anyway, I'll leave you to head there." he then said.

"See you later." he finished.

"Oh. Lovely." Jake muttered.

"But yeah, that might be the place to go." he told her. "The guys are staying away, as those toxins are seriously bad news, and they don't want to get involved in anything... weird." he said further.

"I'm about 15 minutes away from the park if you want some potential backup." he then told her further.

"Or do you want me to stay away."

my little jokes on thee...

When she glanced back at him, it was clear he was out. Cold. He wasn't dead and... barring any of her spiders deciding they were going to be brats... was in no danger of dying. It just seemed like he'd passed out.

Just as she was getting ready to leave the room, she heard Ty's cell phone ring. She checked it to see that it was Jake calling... and the odds were good it was with information about Lunet.

She answered it, and it was clear that Jake was confused.

"...Anya...?" he muttered.

"Long story short, he came to check up and got overwhelmed with everything and passed out. He's the the guest room. So what's going on?" she asked.

"Oh, right. One of the guys noticed some weird cloaked fellas milling about near that quarantined park." he told her. "You know, the one where those really dangerous pesticides leaked into the water supply there." he went on... which was about where Ty's 'sense' had pointed him.

great big one on me.
