Darrell was silent for a moment, before shaking his head.

"I..."[/b he stammered.

[b]"I don't..." he started to say, but couldn't finish.

His face said it all, his trembling lips, his watery eyes.

He couldn't stay. He couldn't go back to class.

He wanted to be with his parents.

He wanted to cry his eyes out while being with them.

Darrell was stunned and shocked.

"Wh-what!?" he exclaimed.

"Wait..." he said.

"I know that's serious..." he said.

"But... what IS that?" he asked her.

Desiree proceeded to explain what it was... and Darrell's heart sank.

"...I don't want to lose Jordan..." he told her quietly.

It didn't take long for her son to arrive, and Darrell looked confused when he did.

He looked around and saw his mother there, before making his way over.

"Um... hi, Mom." he greeted her.

"What's... what's going on?" he asked.

"Am I in trouble?" he asked further, a hint of nervousness to his voice, but it was mostly confusion.

He really couldn't fathom why he had been summoned here, and why his mother was here as well.

"Take a seat." the principal told him.

"Your mother has something to tell you." he went on, as Darrell sat down.

"I'll give you some privacy." the man finished, before leaving the room.

The doctor shook his head.

"No." he responded.

"That is all." he told them.

"Thank you." Jaden said, reaching over and shaking his hand.

"Desiree, I'm going to tell Kalin this." he told Desiree.

"After that, I'm going to notify Mom and Dad." he went on.

"They have a right to know about this as well." he reasoned.

"Very well." the doctor replied.

"I'll make note of that." he said.

"...." Jaden was silent, and sighed.

"I'll tell Kalin not to schedule me for any acts in the near future." he commented.

"If they'll be calling me, then I don't want it to be in the middle of a show." he reasoned.

"I'll tell her what's going on, as well." he then told Desiree.

"We're doing so, as we speak." the doctor replied.

"In her records, we saw he was her family doctor." he said.

"We're calling him in for assistance." he finished.

"Good." Jaden said.

"That's... all right, that's good." he muttered.

"Again, I'm sorry we don't have anything concrete in terms of prognosis." the doctor apologised.

"But we'll let you know as SOON as we do." he said.

"Do we have permission to call either of you, day or not, regardless of hour?" he asked.

"....we don't know." the doctor replied.

"It's too early to say." he told them.

"If it gets worse than this, then she might not make it." he said.

"If we manage to lighten the symptoms, then she has a chance." he went on.

"When will we know?" Jaden asked.

"In the next 48 hours." was the response.

He was silent... before sighing.

"We do." he said.

"Oh?" Jaden asked.

"Yes." the doctor replied.

"We believe... she has diphtheria." he told them.

"Diphtheria!?" Jaden exclaimed.

"A very powerful strain, sadly." was the response.

Jaden held her hand in response, making sure he didn't let go.

He was silent until they were called into the doctor's office, and went they went in, he was waiting for them.

"Welcome." he greeted them.

"I'm sorry to call you in under these circumstances." he apologised.

"But we're doing all we can for Jordan." he went on.

"She is receiving the best care we have to offer."

Jaden nodded.

"Of course." he responded.

With that, the two of them used their mana to get to the hospital, and were escorted to one of the waiting rooms.

"It shouldn't be long." they were told.

"Someone will be out to speak with you momentarily." they were told further, before being left alone.

"...I hate not knowing." Jaden muttered.

"It makes me almost panic."

"...I'm sorry, what?" Jaden asked.

"When? Why!?" he asked her.

"Just now, and we're going to find out." Desiree responded.

"You need to get your butt home now." she then said.

"...right, be there momentarily." Jaden said in response, hanging up and looking to the one he had been talking with.

"Kalin, I gotta go." he told her.

"...seems Jordan's been admitted to the hospital, from school."

"Of course." they replied.

"As we speak, the students are being given examinations to see if they are showing any symptoms, whether they be Jordan's current ones, or if they are showing early ones." they told her.

"If there are new developments, we shall let you know." they finished.

With that, the call was ended.

And Desiree was now in possession of disturbing knowledge.

Her daughter appeared to be VERY sick, and nothing was known about it yet. Granted it was still early, but it was still frightening.

"Mrs McCormick, this is principal Grant." they responded.

"I'm calling about your daughter, Jordan." they went on.

They then proceeded to tell her what Jordan's symptoms had been, from what they saw, and that she was being taken to the hospital.

"I am sorry to be the one to bring you this news." they then apologised.

"Shall I inform her father as well, or will you be the one to?" they asked her.

"Oh my..." the teacher replied, as the medic came rushing up.

"What are the symptoms?" they asked, before the teacher relayed them.

"...I see." the medic responded.

"Jordan, just concentrate on breathing." they told Jordan, before looking at the teacher.

"I think she might need to go to the hospital." they said.

"Make sure her parents are notified." they finished.

Sure enough, within a minute or two, the principal was calling Desiree.
