"Yay!" Leon exclaimed, before he scampered onto her back.

"Let's go!" he said, as she got up and walked out of the room.

Meanwhile, downstairs, Cheryl and Max were sitting at the kitchen table, drinking some coffee and having some bagels for breakfast. And Max was still looking a bit concerned.

"...I know she'll be okay." he said to Cheryl.

"But I can't help but feel this way." he sighed.

"Hi!" Leon responded brightly, and with a smile.

"And okay!" he said, jumping off the bed. He then turned and looked at Desiree, as he eagerly bounced up and down on the balls of his feet.

"Daddy's been really sad that you've been asleep." he then told her.

"Maybe now that you're awake, he'll be happy!" he reasoned.

That pretty much told Desiree that, even though he knew that she was going to be okay (not that she knew THAT part), he had still been quite concerned for her.

Leon squeaked with delight at the wind scooping him up, but when she said what she did, he looked a bit confused.

"Huh?" he asked, cocking his head to the side again.

"But you weren't paying attention." he said.

"I saw you were up so I wanted to say Hi!" he exclaimed further.

"But you didn't say anything..." he went on, now looking a little sadder than before.

"Did I do something bad and you're mad at me?" he asked.

The door opened slightly, and Leon poked his head in, looking at Desiree.

"Hey! You're awake!" he exclaimed.

When Desiree didn't respond (as she was looking away from the door at the time), Leon cocked his head to the side.

"Huh?" he mumbled.

"Hey!" he said, making his way over towards Desiree. When she didn't answer again, he pulled a chair up and climbed atop it, standing and looking RIGHT at her.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!" he repeated, not knowing why she wasn't answering him, but knowing that he WANTED to be noticed now. And he was willing to be persistent until he GOT it.

"All right." Max replied.

"I'll let her know when she wakes up." he told her.

With that, Sydney opened a portal, and he stepped through, just inside his house.

"Cheryl?" he said when the portal closed.

"Get the guest bed ready." he told her.

"Desiree's had a taxing night, and she's going to be resting here for a bit."

Max just rolled his eyes.

"Uh-huh." he said.

"Thank you both." he told them.

"No prob. Just doing my job." Rene replied, before he disappeared in a bubble of water. Sydney and Max then made their way to the sleeping Desiree, and Max thought for a moment.

"Her headphones look kinda busted up." he commented.

"Do you know who the friend that made those for her is?" he asked Sydney.
Posted in Of Rosaries and Vampires Posted 6 years ago
"Hmmm." Rene muttered.

"She might be a bit nervous here." he said. "Face it, you scare her." he told Sydney.

"And I don't think I can justify using up a bed for her at the hospital." he went on.

"I don't want her to be alone tonight." Max then said.

"Fair point." Rene responded.

"I can have her sleep in the spare room at my house." Max then suggested.

Max was silent for a moment, before sighing heavily.

"I see." he said.

"She's a remarkably understanding young lady." he commented.

"She is." Rene responded.

"It's one of her best qualities." he said.

"So all that's left is for her to wake up." Max then commented.

"Mmhmm." Rene mumbled with a nod.

"Ah." Rene replied.

"Well, I guess we'll deal with that when we deal with it." he said.

After about 45 minutes, Rene emerged from the room, and went to where Sydney had been calming down Max.

"How is she?" Max asked him when he saw the doctor.

"She's just fine." Rene responded. "She's just resting now. Sleeping off the pain and such." he said.

Max then sighed heavily in relief.

"Good. Good." he said quietly.

Rene was silent as Desiree said what she did, the way she did. He then watched Sydney leave, and sighed.

"Of course." he muttered.

"She needs to be dealt with." he growled.

"Otherwise she'll just keep trying." he mumbled further.

"Anyway, need to get you fixed up." he said, before beginning the treatment.

Max was silent, as Rene made his way to Desiree.

"Shoo." he told them.

"Let the doctor do his work." he said.

Max just sighed and hung his head, before he trudged out of the room.

"....wow..." Rene muttered.

"He looks like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders." he commented.

"What happened?" he then asked, starting to look over Desiree.

Max jumped into the portal, and was instantly at Sydney's house.

"Hm?" he mumbled, looking around.

"This isn't..." he muttered further, before looking at Sydney.

"Why here?" he asked her. But before she could answer, a large bubble of water formed near her, and then popped to reveal the lanthan doctor.

"Ah." Max said.

"I'm here to fix up Desiree." Rene announced.

"Right." Max responded.

He then used his enhanced speed, and dashed forward, as Deryck writhed in pain and agony. The two of them ran outside, before he stopped and took out his cell phone.

"Sydney, need a portal." he said when she answered.

"Desiree's hurt. She needs medical attention." he told her.

"It doesn't seem life-threatening, but the sooner the better, obviously." he then added.

Max just lifted her in his arms, and nodded.

"You're welcome." he told her.

"Come on." he said.

"Let's get you out of here, and to a hospital." he said further.

He then started to carry her out of the basement, but as soon as they emerged onto the main floor, they both heard Deryck's voice ring out from above them.

"Hold it right there!" he yelled from a walkway that was above them, a rifle pointed right at them.

"I don't know what you did to mother, but it can only mean she's not in good shape." he said. "So I'm going to do her proud and finish the job, killing both of you!" he declared.

"Damn it." Max growled.

"I don't have the speed to evade a bullet." he said.

"You're too drained to use mana as well, aren't you?" he then asked Desiree.
