As she looked around, she saw her headphones on the chair beside her. She put them on, and as she did so, she heard the door open, and saw Rene step inside.

"Ah." he said.

"You're awake. Good." he commented, making his way over.

"How are you feeling?" he asked her.

"Anything concerning or unusual?"

"Last I checked, she wasn't." Rene responded.

"That WAS about 2 hours ago, though." he said.

"Don't expect she'll be up for a while, though." he then admitted.

"Why?" Jaden asked.

"CO poisoning is serious business." Rene responded. "We detox'd her pretty quickly, but it'll still take her body a bit to get itself back up to snuff." he reasoned further.

"...mm." Jaden mumbled.

Rene just stopped, and sighed.

"Yeah." he muttered.

"One of them did kill a shark. And... well, suffice to say, Kalin is bringing the full weight of the law down on them, which has... halted proceedings of the reno." he said.

"....geez." Jaden mumbled.

"Indeed." Rene agreed.

Jaden raised an eyebrow when Sydney said what she did.

"Ah..." he stammered.

"Huh." he said.

"Guessing it'll be a bit before her apartment is cleared." he commented.

"Guessing Max isn't a viable choice. Can't remember how long, but long enough..." he mumbled further.

"She's scared of YOU..." he listed off.

"What about Rene and Kalin? She's friends with them and knows them better." he reasoned.

"No-go." Rene replied, having heard the conversation as he was walking past. "Renovations to the house. We're staying with Kalin's sister." he told them, continuing to walk off.

"...meaning the Fyrane manor is out of the question..." Jaden mumbled.

"And the Council's in a bit of a minor uproar, requiring Vincent to be away from HIS place." he said.

"Well... seems she doesn't have much choice but to stay with me." he then commented to his mother.

"Let's hope she's okay with it."

Max watched her leave, and sighed.

"....they're gone." he mumbled.

"They're nothing more than ghosts of the past." he said.

Meanwhile, Jaden had returned to OLA, and was sitting outside Desiree's room.

"....good thing I have no shows coming up." he commented.

"I'd hate to have to cancel them."

"...ah." Max replied.

"Okay." he said.

"Was Desiree that caused the fall, by the way." he then said further.

"But let's not talk about that." he went on.

"Just leave it in the past."

"Jaden?" Max asked.

"Well, they ARE close." he admitted.

He was then silent for a moment, processing something.

"Hold on." he mumbled.

"Hang on a second, here..." he said.

"Jaden is her... as you call it... guardian angel?" he asked.

Leon looked confused.

"Huh?" he asked.

Max just sighed, and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"....I know." he said.

"Just... I... I know." he mumbled.

"Am I in trouble?" Leon asked nervously.

"No. No, not at all." Max assured his son.

Max looked at Cheryl, and sighed.

"But that's not fair to you and Leon." he said.

"It even took a while to get this time off from the Triad." he went on, before looking at Sydney. "Thanks for the pushing that through, by the way." he added.

"It just doesn't seem fair." he lamented.

"Does she have nowhere else to go?" he then asked Sydney.

"If not, I mean... well, I suppose we COULD go home early..." he said, scratching the back of his head.

"...................." Max found himself speechless as he heard that.

"I... I..." he stammered, before collapsing onto the couch that was nearby.

"Wow." he said.

"I... never would have guessed that." he admitted.

"At least she was saved." he then said further.

"That's all that matters."

Max was silent as he heard that.

"Excuse me?" he asked. "I did?" he asked further.

"Could you possibly give me some more information?" he then asked her.

"Because I am trying VERY hard to not freak out." he told her.

"So... some clarification would be lovely."

All right. was the text she received.

She was then waiting for close to an hour, before the trio returned, and Leon raced over towards her.

"Sydney!" he exclaimed, throwing himself into her for a hug.

"Heh." Max chuckled.

"He's always happy to see you." he told Sydney.

"Sure." Rene replied.

"Oh, I'll be back in a matter of minutes." Jaden said.

"Well, whatever." Rene commented.

"You two go get done what needs doing." he told them.

"Talk to you later, Mom." Jaden said to Sydney.

Rene nodded.

"Of course." he responded.

"I've cleared my schedule for it." he told her.

"Right." Jaden then said.

"I'll talk to you later, Mom." he told Sydney, before seeming to think about something.

"I need to go check on something, but I'll be back." he then added.
