Again, Max was silent. But Desiree could feel the aura of anger around him.

"....I see." he repeated.

"Well, then. It seems I have some... final business... with them." he said.

"I may not have been there for you before, but I can sure make it that you don't have to live your life in fear right now." he reasoned, his eyes flaring with primal rage.

"I'll show them both the fury of a lycan."

Max's eyes narrowed when he heard that.

"....excuse me?" he asked.

"Mother?" he repeated.

"Surely you don't mean Claire." he then said.

Desiree just nodded quietly.

".......................I see." Max then muttered quietly.

"I can tell it wasn't an accident. Perhaps it's time I finally visited her again." he then said, a growl to his tone.

"You should talk to him about it." Max told her.

"Get the information straight from the horse's mouth." he chuckled.

He then cleared his throat a little, and his expression turned serious.

"Now..." he said.

"The other thing. The one that's most concerning to me." he said further.

"The scars over your eye. Where did you get them?" he asked her.

Max shook his head.

"You underestimate yourself." he said.

"Lowly? Hardly." he commented.

"Actually, Jaden's mother has told me he thinks quite highly of you and your act." he then told her.

"He's genuinely impressed with it." he said.

"So don't sell yourself short."

Max blinked a couple of times when he heard that.

"Really?" he asked.

"Wow." he said.

"That's some amazing tech." he commented, looking at them.

"You have a really nice friend to make those for you." he said further, before seeming to remember something.

"Ah, and speaking of friends..." he went on. "I've heard you and Jaden have developed something akin to a friendship." he said.

"..........." Max was silent, before sighing.

"A couple of things." he said.

"One more concerning to me than the other." he went on.

"The lighter one first." he continued, before pausing a moment.

"You're deaf, yes?" he asked.

Desiree nodded in response.

"Then what's with the headphones you wear?" he asked. "Surely they can't be doing anything for you, as you can't hear the music." he reasoned.

"Or, at the very least, hearing aides under them would be uncomfortable." he then added.

Max nodded in response.

"That's good." he said.

"What would you like?" he asked.

"I asked you here, so the very least I can do is treat you." he reasoned with a small, but sincere smile.

"Feel free to get whatever you like."

After a few minutes of her waiting, she saw her father enter the coffee shop. He scanned the area, locating her quickly, before making his way over and sitting across from her.

"Hello." he greeted her.

"Thank you for meeting me." he said.

"I know you must have a busy schedule." he then commented with a smile.

"Have you been waiting long?" he asked her.

Max accepted the card, and stared at it, before nodding.

"Thank you." he said.

"Thank you so much." he told her, before taking a deep breath and composing himself.

"Right." he said.

"I should get myself together." he commented.

"Leon needs to see everyone being happy and energetic." he reasoned.

"I have plenty." Max replied.

"Too many. Especially given the current time and situation." he said.

"...is it... possible to... re-establish contact?" he asked her.

"Maybe get to... know each other?" he asked further.

"I would truly like to know what kind of person you are. Who you've become." he said.

He also noticed the nasty scars over her eye... but figured that was a question for later.

Max was silent, seemingly stunned.

"Ah... ah... a mage... with the Eye?" he asked.

He then started chuckling lightly, before it turned into outright laughter.

"A mage... born of a mana hunter... gets the eye." he said. "And the mana hunter that gave her that eye is now a lycan." he said further.

"Life has such a messed up sense of humour."

Max started to shake a little, and then shook his head.

"I'm still so sorry." he said.

"But I knew that... I couldn't trust myself. Not with..." he went on, before trailing off and wiping his eyes with his arm.

He then seemed to remember something, and looked right at her.

"Ah, yes!" he exclaimed.

"I have to ask you something." he told her.

"Why do I feel the gaze of the Eye of Judgement from you?" he asked.
Posted in Of Rosaries and Vampires Posted 6 years ago
Max was silent as Desiree responded as she did.

He then hung his head low, his gaze now at the table.

"....I'm sorry..." she heard him whisper.

"I'm... I'm so sorry..." he repeated, as drops of liquid started to hit the table.

"Desiree, I... I... please... forgive me." he begged her.

"I only did what I thought was best."

Max nodded and grabbed them each a bottled water.

When he handed hers to her, she felt it was ice cold.

"........right." he then said.

"Desiree, I..." he stammered, before pausing.

"This is... I don't know how to say this..." he went on.

"But... I've felt this sense of... familiarity... ever since you got here." he told her.

"And... I think I know why."
