The lightning hit Ryker, and while it was clear that it had hurt him, Ryker didn't back down either.

Instead, as the dragon opened his mouth to bite him, he smashed his fist into the first thing that was closest to him... which ended up being one of the dragon's teeth.

"Ngh, crap." Ryker growled.

Evan just shrugged.

"Your choice." he said.

He then reached over and scratched Kitt in the spot he had pointed out... resulting in Kitt making some happy noises, and noodling out a little.

"Heh." Evan chuckled.

"So is Dad driving you home again?" he asked Blair.

Ryker noticed what happened to Eke, and his anger started to overtake him, emboldening the presence that had already started to distinctly inhabit his body.

He lifted his hands and slammed the palms down onto the ground, causing the area to shake and rumble, like an earthquake was going to suddenly happen.

However, the earth did not split open.

Instead, rays of the black energy started to shoot up from beneath the ground, all around them.

Ryker didn't seem to react at all at first... until he quickly raised up his hands, palms facing towards the dragon.

"....think so highly of yourselves." he growled.

"You're not the apex of this existence. Not any longer." he finished.

As soon as he did that, orbs formed in them, and rays of black energy that seemed to burn like fire shot out towards the dragon. However, it was unlike any fire found in the world, it seemed like.

And both Eke and the dragon could tell that it burned hotter than any flame humans could produce.

Ryker didn't say anything in response to the dragon... except for letting out a guttural howl of pain and frustration. As he did, his voice reverberated around the area, and all his muscles seemed to violently bulk up very suddenly. Not to extreme or grotesque sizes, but it was a noticeable difference.

As this happened the ones that bore witness to this watched what seemed to be an inky liquidy darkness fall over the inside of Ryker's eyes, dissipating into them, and turning them a light grey.

Once that was finished, the energy seemed to rise off of Ryker's body like ominous steam, his arms and shoulders slumped forward, as he looked at the dragon.

"...this may be a mortal's body." a dark voice told the dragon.

"But I can still tap into power that can bring you damned lizards to your knees." it warned, Ryker's hands clenching tightly into fists.

Ryker just looked at the dragon, and felt the shard in his chest start to... hurt.

"...ngh." he grunted.

"Eke." he said.

"If you plan to fight, then I'm fighting as well. The shard demands it." he told him.

"I... don't know how to explain it, but it's like there's a presence in the shard... and it REALLY doesn't like the dragon in front of us." he added, managing to maintain his composure... barely.

Evan chuckled in response.

"She was looking for attention." he responded.

"Go ahead and give her a pet." he offered.

"She really likes attention, and she's grown to like you." he said. "Well, she's used to you being around, and you're friends with me... I assume... so she won't mind." he went on.

"You'll really get her liking you if you scratch right there." he added, gesturing to a spot just above the base of Kitt's tail.

"I'll speak with her when she gets here." Blair heard Lindsay respond, as he went down the stairs.

He made his way to the den, where he saw Evan on the couch, with their large black feline on his lap... and most of the couch as well.

"Oh, hey." Evan greeted Blair when he saw them.

"Finished with the session?" he asked, as he nudged the feline a little.

The feline growled slightly, though it was more of a grumble, before it curled up a little, giving Blair room to sit on the couch.

Lindsay, in a bit of an impulse, gently put his hand on Blair's shoulder.

"Forget what your father wants." he said.

"I will help you put him in his place, as a shade of the past that shrivels up into nothing in due time." he told them.

"I'll mention the arrangement to your mother when she comes to pick you up, then." he then added.

"At any rate, let us continue." he said further.

With that, the two of them spoke for close to an hour, before the session had ended, and they exited the office.

"I think we made a lot of progress today." he said to Blair.

"Your mother should be here any minute as well." he continued.

"If you like, you can head to the den and chat with Evan if you like." he then added.

"I see." Lindsay replied.

"A massive difference of opinion." he said.

"Well, as long as you realize it's not your fault." he told Blair. "I won't say you're not a key reason, but it is not your FAULT." he stressed.

"Regardless, thank you for opening up to me." he went on.

"May I propose something?" he asked.

"If it would make things easier for yourself and your mother, I can arrange drives back home for you, from your sessions here, and art therapy." he then offered.

'...it all makes sense now.' Lindsay thought.

"That must be hard." he said.

"For the both of you." he said further.

"And her and your father are not together any longer?" he then asked.

"Do you feel comfortable sharing why that is?" he asked further.

"I want to make sure, is all." Lindsay responded.

"When one is going through a difficult time such as yourself, home life can have a dramatic effect on how one feels about oneself, and the decisions one makes." he continued.

"I've also noticed your mother tends to be very hard to get ahold of, on a regular basis." he said. "And she's often very late to pick you up, or you need to catch a ride with myself." he continued.

"Is everything all right with her?" he asked.

After a couple of months, Lindsay decided that he would ask. They had an appointment that afternoon, which was the perfect opportunity.

Blair arrived, and made his way to Lindsay's office, where their session commenced. However, halfway through it, Lindsay leaned in a little closer.

"So... tell me, Blair." he said.

"How's your home life? Your family life?" he asked.

"One's life at home has an immense impact on a person, after all." he then reasoned.

Ryker gritted his teeth as Eke said what he did.

"So be it." he said.

"If you intend to give up, then I'm staying and fighting." he told him, cracking his knuckles, as dark energy started to swirl around his arms.

"Maybe they'll finally be able to kill me." he said further.

"Maybe I'll beat them." he went on.

"Either way, suppose it works for me." he shrugged.
