She received no answer. At all.

She knocked again and opened the door... to see her brother in bed.

Or, rather, she saw a massive lump under the sheets, and couldn't see Darrell, directly.

"Darrell...?" she said as she approached, but got no answer.

However, before she could assume the worst, she heard something.

A groan.

It was soft... pained... hoarse... but it was there. She's heard it.

Sebastien just groaned.

"I'M not the one you need to worry about." he said.

"I'm half-demon. I can feel that half trying to fight this off." he told her.

"Darrell is not." he went on.

"He may be not-human, but he's no demon." he continued.

"I won't argue that I need to go to the hospital, but you might want to check your brother's room, to make sure he's... well... still with us." he suggested.

She got silence in response, before a door opened, and Sebastien stepped out.

"Oof." he muttered.

"Not good." he said.

"I feel... a LOT worse." he continued.

"Dunno what this is, but... not good at all." he went on, looking at Jordan.

"Have you seen your brother?" he asked.

Just as she had finished her text to Rene, she received a response from her father.

Stay safe. I'll tell your mother. Love you. it said.

And then she received a text from Rene.

No, not yet. Not to my knowledge. he told her.

Then, before she could respond to either of them, she heard a sound. A heavy sound, like someone slumping out of bed.

She didn't know who it was, but she had a guess.

She found nothing.

Not a single thing.

With that, she sat down at the couch and turned on the television, only to see an emergency broadcast for a channel that only non-mortals had access to.

"...very dangerous mana virus." the news anchor said.

"It is highly contagious, and all mages in the North American continent are urged to stay indoors for the time being." they said further.

"This broadcast will be repeated and updated on an hourly basis, or as news arries."

"I know." he replied.

"Trust me, I am a little on the concerned side about this." he told her.

-The next day-

Jordan emerged from her room, and heard nothing.

Not a single thing.

Normally she would hear Darrell and/or Bast milling about, but nothing.

The place seemed to be entirely silent.

Which was concerning.

"...I am very dehydrated." Bast replied.

"A drink would be awesome." he said.

"Water, preferrably." he continued.

He then sighed and let his arm hang over the side of the couch.

"Thanks." he went on.

"For the offer, at the very least."

He just sighed.

"I hold no authority over anyone." he said.

"But regardless, that's out in the open, now." he told her.

"I have nothing to lose by letting it out there, and nothing to gain by hiding it." he reasoned.

He then sank into the couch a little, and groaned.

"So... drained." he mumbled.

Bast was silent for a moment, before glancing over towards her.

"Hm?" he mumbled.

"I said what I meant, and meant what I said." he told her.

"If you were a few years older, then sure, I'd be willing to give it a shot." he said.

"You seem like a cool girl, and... off the record... you ARE rather easy on the eyes." he went on.

"But! We don't need to get involved with ANYTHING... not until we're sure it won't come back to legally bite us in the asses." he finished.

"Well, it's understandable." Bast replied.

"And it wouldn't be a good idea, anyway." he said.

"You're... guessing 15? 16?" he asked.

"Wouldn't want to do anything for at least another 3 years or so." he went on.

"After THAT, gimme a call." he chuckled.

"I've... not heard of that." he replied.

"A vampire with no mana?" he went on.

"I always assumed that they always had SOME kind of mana." he reasoned.

"But I don't know much about vampires, admittedly." he then said.

"Why would he think you're manipulating me, anyway?" he asked her.

"Perhaps." Sebastien responded.

"It would be a big help if you could help." he told her.

Darrell then sighed, and stood up.

"I best be off." he said.

"I've been an asshole enough for one day." he commented.

"Huh?" Sebastien muttered.

"Nothing." Darrell said, before starting to head off.

"....." Sebastien was was silent for a moment.

"That... is a very good point." he said.

"Wonder if it's some weird mana bug." he commented.

"...oops." Darrell muttered.

"Then I might get it." he said.

"Could just be some demon thing, though." Bast then suggested.

"I'll see how this goes over the next 24 hours."

"Har har." Sebastien replied.

"I just feel like crap." he said.

"Might need to skip a day or two of class." he went on.

"Geez, that sucks." Darrell commented.

"Yep." Sebastien confirmed.

"Just.... ugh." he groaned, shaking his head slightly.
