Chris withdrew the probes, and stuck them just under her armpit, sending more mana into her.

"Hah!" he laughed.

"As if." he said.

"Trust me, I've considered that in the past." he told her.

"But... she seems to lo-" he started to say, before pausing, and acquiring an expression that told her he was just realising what he was going to finish saying.

"...she likes him too much." he finished.

"Odds are if I were to try anything, that'd be the end for me." he went on.

"She doesn't seem to like it when I step up to the plate."

"......." Chris was silent, before shrugging.

"Probably." he said.

"At this point, nobody tells me anything." he said further, setting the long black briefcase-like suitcase he was holding, and opening it up. "I just get yelled at, or barked orders to." he went on, starting to assemble some sort of metal pole.

"Not even from Mistress these days. All through that damned smug wood elf." he growled, finishing it up. It looked like some sort of strange cattle prod... but with much sharper points at the end.

"He's really pissing me off." he grumbled, putting a weird cartridge-like thing into the pole.

"What the hell makes HIM so special?" he asked, jabbing the pointed bits into her side and pressing a button on the device, sending pure-aligned electrical mana through her body.

After a moment or two, she heard some males talking.

"Get to it." one said.

"And get results this time." they went on.

"Or she will NOT be happy." they growled further.

It was clearly Azari's voice, and a few minutes after that, Chris walked into the room she was hanging in.

"....." he was silent, and then sighed quietly.

"Damned elf." he growled, before looking at the female.

"...and you are NOT looking good." he commented.

Azazel looked over towards her, and nodded.

"Sure thing." he said.

"Lunch it is." he told her.

He then paused for a moment, and smiled.

"So." he said.

"How'd your uncle react to the news?" he asked.

"I did." the one on the other end replied.

"Regardless, you know why you're there." they said.

"Don't get smug or cute on us." they went on.

"For now, just continue to update us." they continued.

"Is there anything else?" they then asked.

"If not, I suggest you return to your mission."

"Good." the one on the other end responded.

"Remember to stay low-key." they told her.

"Update us every week." they continued.

"And make SURE anyone that seems like they're getting suspicious... disappears." they went on.

"When you've ingrained yourself in there... you know who to go for." they then told her.

"Do NOT fail her."

Azazel just shrugged.

"There's a good food cart around, so sure." he said.

"I can hang around here." he told her.

"Actually, I'll head to security." he then said further.

"Wait for you there." he continued.

"I know you'll find your way." he chuckled, before saying goodbye and heading off.

"A phone call?" Azazel asked.

"Eh, just find a random empty room and go inside." he told her.

"Just make sure the door is closed." he went on.

"If it's closed, people will know someone's inside, but the window in the door will allow them to check and make sure nothing illegal or whatever is happening." he explained.

"That work for you?" he asked.

"Or do you need something more private?"

"Yeah, this place is a bit of a maze." Azazel sighed.

"But you'll get used to it." he told her.

He then suddenly laughed a little, and shook his head.

"Man." he said.

"Never thought someone I met over message boards and IM would end up being a coworker." he admitted.

"Guess fate is a funny thing."

Azazel just smiled.

"Well, then." he said.

"Good to see you got hired." he commented.

"You deserve it more than anyone else." he went on.

"When do you start?" he asked.

"When do you become a team member fully?" he chuckled.

The door was shut as she left, and she then proceeded to explore the building.

On her way, she ran into Azazel.

"Oh, hey." he greeted her.

"How's it going?" he asked.

"...judging from the fact that you seem to be familiarizing yourself with the place, can I assume things have gone well in the interviewing process?" he then asked her further.

"By all means." Hal replied.

"Get to know your new place of work." he told her.

"I'd suggest familiarizing yourself with R&D, specifically." he went on. "After all, you'll be working there." he reasoned.

"For now, go on ahead." he went on.

"And feel free to stop by the cafeteria for something to eat, if you wish." he added.

"I'm sure you've been told what to do if you find yourself confused as to where you are."

"Right." Hal replied.

About 25 minutes later, they had finished everything up, and the last paper had been signed.

"And that is that." he said.

"You report for your first day this coming Monday." he told her.

"Remember to dress appropriately, even though we ARE a bit more lax with that sort of thing." he went on.

"Oh! And here." he finished, taking a larger coin from a desk drawer, and handing it to her.

"Use that to avoid the commute. It'll teleport you to a safe and secure location near the building, so you can walk here."

"On the record, it's not my place to say." Hal told her.

"Off the record, very little." he went on.

"You were just as qualified as the other applicants, but we here at the Unit believe in helping those that need it." he continued.

"So while the other applicants are sure to find jobs elsewhere, we feel that allowing you to have the position is the right choice." he said further.

"Also, your overall personality tells me you'll gel with the other employees far more naturally than the others." he added.

"Now... it's time we go through the employment agreements."
