He nodded in response.

"Fair." he said.

"I'll get on the phone about it." he told her.

"Still. Good eye." he went on.

"Already you're showing me that you are well on the track to success." he continued.

"Keep it up. You've got a hell of a future ahead of you." he then said.

"In the meantime, continue to familiarise yourself with the case. See if you notice anything."

Everett shook his head.

"It has not been brought into evidence." he told her.

"However, it should be at the scene of the crime." he continued.

"If you wish to visit it, I'm sure we can examine it." he went on.

"Or, at the very least, take a quick look." he reasoned.

"After all, we both have business there now." he reasoned further.

"You thinking you want to check it out?" he asked.

Everett grinned.

"THERE you go." he said.

"One can argue it's small, but if we can discredit that witness, then the jury will have no choice but to come back with a 'not guilty' verdict." he told her.

"Obviously it's going to take some convincing, but I think we can do it." he went on.

"I can see why Gavin picked you." he then said.

"You're sharp." he told her.

"Didn't take you long at ALL to see that."

"Indeed." Everett responded.

"However, the prosecution will be able to get the jury to believe it's from the stress of it all." he went on.

"Look at THESE two in specific." he then said, showing her two that were very similar, one of them being the key witness's account.

"There's a VERY big problem between them." he continued.

"You're smart, you'll see it." he told her.

"I don't know him." Everett responded.

"However, come look at the documents with me." he continued.

"Specifically, the statements from the witnesses." he went on.

"Come read them VERY carefully, and tell me what you think of them." he told her as they entered his office.

"You'll see why I'm as certain as I am."

Everett nodded and the two of them and they were excused.

Once they left, they started to make their way back to his own office.

"All right." he said.

"This is a pretty big case." he told her.

"Defendant is accused of murder in the first degree." he continued.

"It's my job to show that he is completely innocent, which I believe him to be."

Everett just laughed a little.

"Sorry, sometimes things like that slip out." he told her.

"Good response, though." he said.

"You start immediately." Gavin then told her.

"You can help him go through some of the case files he has, and he'll be taking you to court with him." he continued.

"See how one my best defense attorneys handles things."

Everett just looked at Kalin, and smirked.

"No issues at all." he told her.

"I'm already a battle-scarred veteran in the courtroom." he said.

"I relish the chance to teach the new generation." he went on.

"Show the kitten how to bare her fangs and claws."

Everett just chuckled.

"Hear that, boss?" he asked Gavin.

"I'm prettier than you." he said.

Gavin faked being hurt, and swooned backwards as though he was recoiling.

"THIS is the thanks I get for taking you in!" he declared in a melodramatic tone.

"I pair you with one that has experience, and one that I feel you will connect with and learn from, and this is how you thank me!" he went on, but answering her question, at least.

Gavin nodded.

"I do." he replied.

"It's time you learned how things go in a real courtroom, being up there and in the middle of it all." he told her.

"And the one I'm pairing you with should get along with you nicely." he added.

"Come on in, Everett!" he then called out.

After that, she saw a man enter the office... one that she had seen a couple of times before. He looked to be in his mid-30's, had jet black hair with frosted blonde tips, and had tanned skin. He wore a nice black outfit, and looked like one that had seen more than his fair share of court.

"And here I am, boss." he said with a smirk, sitting down beside Kalin.
