Rene froze for a moment, thankful that he had put his glasses on before exiting the bathroom.

"Ah... ah-ha..." he laughed nervously.

"Yeah, I'm weird." he said.

"Those bottles are in there as a sore throat remedy." he told her.

"I just find it works better for me than anything else." he went on.

"Though I should have warned you about them in that note, sorry." he apologised.

"I'll be up there soon!" Ryker called to him.

As soon as Eke was up the stairs, Aly looked towards him.

"What happened?" she asked.

"Is Ryker okay?" she asked further.

After that, she found some juice... and to her relief, it tasted like juice.

About 10 minutes later, the water stopped, and Rene stepped out of the washroom, pants on, and a towel draped over his shoulders.

He made his way through the apartment, before seeing Kalin.

"Oh!" he exclaimed.

"You woke up a lot sooner than I thought." he said.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"......" Rene was silent, and sighed.

"At least there's that." he said.

He then threw away the note he'd written previously, and wrote a new one. One telling her she had more time, and other things.

Once he put it where she would see it, he made his way to the kitchen, and was silent.

"....well, I should be here when she wakes." he said.

"Waking up here alone might not be the best thing for her..."

Rene laughed as well.

"I'll bet." he said.

"And I've been all right." he told her.

"Falling out of love with this city, sadly." he then half-lied.

With that, the two of them chatted, and at the end of their little meeting, he filled out the note and gave it to her, before they split, Savannah heading back to the campus, and Rene heading home.

When he got there, he sighed as he looked at the still-sleeping Kalin.

"I WILL get you through this." he told her.

"I promise."

"Ah, not in regards to Kalin." Rene responded.

"Let us move onto lighter topics." he suggested.

"How's life been for you?" he asked.

"We haven't spoken since you got engaged." he went on.

"How's that going?" he asked her, taking a drink of coffee.

"And feel free to have as much of the cinnamon-pullapart as you want." he added.

Rene paused.

"....really?" he asked.

She nodded in response.

"I see." he then said, his tone a little flatter.

"In that case, I want her to succeed even MORE now." he told her.

"She's busted balls for this, I refuse to let some self-important entitled brats hold her back." he finished, and Savannah could almost hear a darkness in his tone now, before he suddenly perked up.

"But that's an off-the-record statement." he said lightly, with a small and nervous chuckle.

"Well, I worked hard to get that reputation." Rene replied.

"I want to see Kalin get that same reputation." he told her.

"I'll fill out the note as we're finishing up here." he then said.

"And I'll keep you updated on Kalin, should you want that." he went on.

"I just feel sorry for the poor girl." he continued.

"Given all the chances to succeed, only for elitists to try and bar her way."

Rene just smirked.

"I know." he said, picking up a briefcase that was close to him.

"I can do up a note right here." he told her.

"On my official stationery, even." he continued.

"After all, an official note from Dr. Rene Calder should be more than enough for any professor, yes?" he then reasoned with a light chuckle.

"If not, tell me what else may be needed."

"From what she's told me, those that are tormenting her have money." Rene responded.

"A LOT of money." he clarified.

"And money DOES talk. Or the threat of using it to talk is very effective." he then added.

"But odds are she's being threatened quite effectively." he lamented.

"Listen, is there any way that we can find out what her assignment due tonight is, and whether or not a special extension can be granted, given the extenuating circumstances?" he asked her.

"Well, I DID ask for this meeting." Rene reasoned.

"It'd be rude of me to not get you something." he went on.

"Anyway, while I would love to reminisce on the past right now, I feel we should get to the meat of this first." he then told her.

"Kalin Kiczys. Let me tell you how I came to know her." he continued.

He then told her how they had first met, all that had been said, and about the second time they met (omitting why he was in that area in the first place), what had been discussed there, and what he'd seen when they were back at his suite apartment.

"Suffice to say, things aren't going well for her." he said.

"But through it all, she's trying to focus on her schooling... no matter what."

"Works for me." Rene replied.

"I'll be there, waiting for you." he told her.

With that, they ended the call, and he looked over towards Kalin.

"...I'll leave a note in case she wakes up while I'm gone..." he mumbled.

About a half-hour later, he was already at the cafe, sitting at one of the booths, waiting for what he'd ordered. He got a drink for him, one for Savannah (he still knew what she liked), and one of their larger pastry items for them to share.

"She should be here about the time it's out." he chuckled.

Rene thought for a moment.

"Ah, how about 'Edward's Coffee'?" he suggested.

"It's close by and I can get there quick as well." he said.

"Just tell me when you can be there." he told her.

"I'll be there shortly after, and you know it." he finished.

"See, this is why I'd like to meet up." Rene replied.

"I've learned a lot from Kalin in a short period, and if you can meet up with me ASAP, then that would be great." he continued.

"However, the very short story is that Kalin seems to be taxing her mind and body to the absolute limits, while dealing with entitled pay-to-graduate peers that are doing all they can to prevent her success." he summarised.

"All she told me was that she had an assignment due tonight at midnight." he then said.

"However, it seems like that might be nigh-impossible right now, through no fault of her own." he went on.

"Savannah, I don't want her to fall. I want to push her on and get her across that finish line... ahead of all the others."
